Lexus Recalls RC F and GS F Over Fuel Pump Defect

Toyota initiates a recall for 4,413 Lexus RC F and GS F models in Japan due to fuel pump failures

Maintaining strict quality control and ensuring passenger safety remains the highest priority for premium automakers. In line with this commitment, Toyota has officially announced a large-scale recall campaign in Japan affecting its high-performance luxury division, Lexus. The recall specifically targets 4,413 units of the high-output Lexus RC F and GS F models, following the discovery of a critical manufacturing defect within the fuel supply system that could pose a serious hazard during driving.

Technical Breakdown of the Defect
The recall, which has been formally reported to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, encompasses vehicles produced between August 26, 2014, and February 11, 2022. The core technical issue lies within the low-pressure fuel pump. Comprehensive engineering inspections revealed that the material used to manufacture the pump's internal impeller was insufficiently resistant to prolonged fuel exposure. Over time, this plastic component absorbs fuel, causing it to swell and deform. Eventually, the deformed impeller strikes the outer casing of the pump, leading to complete mechanical failure.

Prioritizing Preventive Safety Measures
The most alarming scenario associated with this technical flaw is the sudden interruption of fuel supply to the engine, which could cause the vehicle to stall completely while driving at speed, placing the driver and other road users in significant danger. Fortunately, while company records indicate 117 customer complaints regarding this frustrating issue, no traffic accidents or injuries have been reported to date. As a definitive preventive solution, Toyota is actively contacting all affected owners to schedule visits to authorized service centers, where the defective fuel pumps will be replaced with improved, redesigned components completely free of charge.
